Development progress

If you haven't stopped by yet, please visit the forums. I'll be posting more info regarding the develop progess there. Thus far, I have posted a theme test that shows the expect savings in file sizes. I have also posted a demo of the upcoming preferences panel.

 

Forums available and Demo box

I've setup a local instance of phpBB forums that is accessible at: http://olymp.iad.vt.edu/phpBB2/. Please stop by and help out. I've also managed to get a slightly beefier box to running a demo instance of uPortal (with ND theme) on. It should be speedier (knock on wood).

On a side note, there's a new look and feel here. By changing the CSS with a few tweaks to the XHTML... presto. It's not the fanciest design in the world, but hey...

 

Denied on SF

Just got back the offical word from SF, the project registration has been denied on the basis that it is a "content-generation" project. It seems to make sense, however, there are many projects on SF that are similar in many aspects.

At a bare minimum, I would like to have a forums setup for everyone to use. I might just put phpBB on a local server here.

 

uPortal 2.2 and themes

Here is my tentative plan for updating the ND theme for use in 2.2, please send any comments.

		inductiveModes
		- Allow use of aggregated layouts in ND theme
		-- Comply to W3C recommended standards
		-- Meet or act as starting points to comply with WAI Checkpoints
		-- Re-use XSL and CSS structure from ND theme
		- Allow internationalization in ND theme
		- Provide tasked based Preferences Channel
		-- Increase usability of SimpleUserLayoutManager based Preferences Channel
		- Address remaining usability / accessibility issues

The 1.15 distribution of ND theme can be used in uPortal 2.2, however the ability to make use of aggreagated layouts will not be there. Many have noted to me their wish for an updated ND theme. I am in the process of investigating the best method of updating it. I submitted a project registration on Sourceforge for ND, but it was rejected. A support request will be filed to find out why, most likely it was my registration description.

I am hoping that having ND in Sourceforge will allow more people to contribute to it's development. If someone out there could help me with this issue, I would most appreciate it. Thanks.

Nested DIVs 1.15 Released

Nothing major in this release... as expected works fine with uPortal 2.15. A few files where sync'ed up and a two minor accessibility issues addressed. See the download page

 

uPortal 2.15 Released

A new release is available. Please do not use Nested DIVs theme with uPortal 2.15 until I have fully tested the two. I do know a few files will have to be sync'ed, but other than that there should be no foreseeable problems.

Bookmarks Channel

For those asking about the Bookmarks Channel on the demo site, you can download it here.

It's a modified version of the official Bookmarks Channel that uses unordered lists and CSS to control the layout. Tables and transparent GIFs have been removed. You must import or link the included bookmarks.css file.

Seems my previous news entry was never uploaded and was even accidentially deleted by me. I am considering opening a project on Sourceforge to make use of CVS, Bug Tracker, and online forums.
